Bug fixes, new feature, major release, or performance. Each type gets a tone and structure that fits the news.

The version string leads the notes, so users and reviewers can match the text to the build they're looking at.

Three bullets by default, add more if you need. Empty bullets are dropped, and an emoji toggle switches between themed and plain bullets.

The footer tracks the App Store's 4000-character limit and Google Play's much tighter 500-character limit at the same time.

Release notes, answered
4000 characters in the App Store's 'What's New' field, but only 500 characters per language on Google Play. If you ship the same text to both, write for the 500 limit.
On the App Store, the What's New text ships with a version, so changing it means a new submission. If you need fresh store copy between releases, use the 170-character promotional text instead, which is editable anytime.
They aren't a primary search-ranking input, but they're visible on the listing and in the update feed. Clear notes support conversion and retention, and thoughtless notes ('bug fixes and improvements' forever) waste a free touchpoint with your users.
Specifics. Name the feature, the bug, or the speedup users will actually notice. Keep the changelog-speak for GitHub and write to the person who tapped Update.
